I knew as soon as we got the diagnosis that Zadah was profoundly deaf in both ears, that we had to get her help right then. Time was of the essence because we were behind already. We thought that we were getting the help that we needed but really until we got to WISE, we were not. Zadah attended WISE three days per week for several years. All of the therapists were wonderful with Zadah and taught me how to work with her at home.
We knew when we enrolled Zadah at WISE that there would be a lot of travel, (an hour and a half each way). It was very difficult but all that hard work and all those many miles, (and yes there were many tears), were so worth it because Zadah has come so very far in her development.
Zadah is doing well in her mainstream school and continues to receive weekly therapy through the WISE School Outreach Program. The WISE audiologists also visit Zadah at school. My advice for other families is to never let anyone tell you that it’s ok to wait, because it is not. If your gut tells you something is not right, then you go with it… ask questions, fight for your child to get them the help that they need. WISE is the perfect place to get that help.
