Our Mission

Supporting WISE's Vision

The Junior Board of the Woolley Institute for Spoken-Language Education (WISE) is committed to advancing WISE’s mission. We strive to empower families by providing essential skills, strategies, and resources, ensuring every child with hearing differences or developmental delays can thrive in their community.

Our efforts focus on fostering spoken language development, enhancing educational opportunities, and promoting inclusivity. By engaging young professionals, we aim to amplify WISE’s impact and reach throughout Alabama and beyond.

OUR PURPOSE

The purpose of the WISE Junior Board is to spearhead initiatives that support WISE’s programs and goals. We are dedicated to raising funds, increasing awareness, and building a strong network of advocates for children with hearing and speech challenges.

Through meaningful volunteer opportunities, we engage young professionals in activities that promote WISE’s mission. Our board members benefit from networking and professional development, all while making a tangible impact on the community.

Join us in our efforts to create a more inclusive world where every child has the opportunity to listen, speak, read, and fully integrate into society. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

Membership Criteria

Joining the Junior Board

To become a member of the WISE Junior Board, candidates must be young professionals aged 21-40 who are enthusiastic about advancing our mission. Membership is granted for two-year terms, with the possibility of serving up to three consecutive terms. Prospective members are required to submit an application, which will be reviewed by the Executive Committee. An annual contribution of $100 is expected from each member, and renewal is subject to the Executive Committee’s approval.

Governance Structure

Executive Committee Roles

The Junior Board operates under the guidance of an Executive Committee, which includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and other necessary officers. These roles are filled through annual elections by the Junior Board members, with a limit of three consecutive terms for each position. The Executive Committee is tasked with overseeing all board activities, including fundraising, event coordination, and outreach initiatives, ensuring alignment with WISE’s goals.

Fundraising Initiatives

Supporting WISE Through Events

The Junior Board is committed to organizing impactful fundraising events and campaigns to bolster WISE’s programs. All fundraising efforts are subject to approval by the Executive Committee and must adhere to WISE’s policies. Members are encouraged to actively engage in these activities, leveraging their networks to maximize support and donations. Through creative and strategic planning, the Junior Board aims to enhance community involvement and financial backing for WISE.

Communication Strategies

Effective Communication with Leadership

The Junior Board will establish a robust communication framework with WISE’s leadership and staff to ensure seamless collaboration. Regular updates will be shared through monthly newsletters, and strategic meetings will be scheduled quarterly to align on goals and initiatives. Additionally, a dedicated liaison will facilitate ongoing dialogue, ensuring that all Junior Board activities are in sync with WISE’s overarching objectives.

Amendment Process

Charter Amendment Procedures

To amend the charter, a structured process is in place to ensure transparency and member involvement. Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee at least two weeks prior to the voting session. A two-thirds majority vote from the Junior Board members is required for any amendment to pass, ensuring that changes reflect the collective agreement of the board.

Members are encouraged to participate actively in the amendment process by providing feedback and suggestions. The Executive Committee will review all proposals and facilitate discussions during scheduled meetings. This democratic approach ensures that the charter remains relevant and aligned with the evolving needs of the organization and its members.
